I'm Tina Smith, adventurer at heart and founder of Wanderlust Homebody, LLC. My love for travel started with the summer road trips I went on with my parents and brother when I was a child. I took my first flight when I was 16 years old, and my first international trip was to Ghana in 2013. I often say that my wanderlust is genetic because my paternal family takes an international vacation to a different country every July.
I switched gears to solo travel through house-sitting in mid-2022 after spending a year and half grieving and staying indoors. I longed to get back out there, but also knew that the comfort of being at home was vital to continuing my healing journey. Because I didn’t have a physical workplace, I was free to go anywhere and stay as long as I wanted to so I looked into house-sitting. I liked the idea that I could help others who needed to get away just as much I did simply by staying at their place.
As a solo traveler, I prefer sits with pets so that I have some company but have also enjoyed pet-free sits. I booked 5 sits before I went on my first actual sit. I have completed 9 sits and have 5 more scheduled. So far, I have booked sits in 5 states and 4 countries.
The biggest plus to being a house-sitter is that I no longer have to budget for the travel expenses that used to be my largest – lodging. This gives me the financial freedom to stay longer and truly live like a local, whether that means exploring the area or lounging on a patio with a view. I’ve met wonderful hosts and made unforgettable memories, all while slashing my travel costs. I look forward to showing you how to do the same.
